The Benefits of Learning Polish as a Heritage Language

At St. Mogues College, we are proud to offer students the unique opportunity to learn Polish through the innovative collaboration between CMETB and PPLI. This program allows students to embrace their heritage language while preparing for the Leaving Certificate in Polish. Our school is one of six in the CMETB network providing this pathway to success for students with at least an A2 level of proficiency in Polish.

Learning a heritage language like Polish offers more than just linguistic benefits. It helps students maintain a strong connection to their cultural roots, fostering a deep understanding of Polish traditions, history, and values. Through learning the language, students strengthen their identity and build a bridge to their heritage, allowing them to better connect with family and friends in Poland. This enhances relationships across generations and keeps the richness of their cultural background alive.

Our program uses a blended learning approach, combining online lessons with in-person classes. Students engage with teachers face-to-face in a classroom setting while also benefiting from the flexibility and resources provided by online platforms. This system encourages independent learning while maintaining the support of a dedicated teacher.

The program thrives thanks to the high level of commitment from students, teachers, e-mentors, and CMETB school directors. Their collaboration creates a dynamic and supportive environment where students excel. Many achieve excellent Leaving Certificate results, which not only supports future academic and professional goals but also ensures that they carry their cultural identity proudly into adulthood.

By learning Polish, students are not just mastering a language—they are preserving a rich cultural legacy, strengthening family ties, and celebrating their heritage in a meaningful way.
